Disaster
recovery:
The
best way to recover from a disaster is not to have one in the first
place. Lots of organisations take their data and computer systems for
granted. Statistically if an organisation's key data gets destroyed in
some way, statistically the business will fold within 12 months.
Prevention is better than cure and we can advise on ways to minimise
risks for your data. Some things you can do for yourself:
- Take
regular backups and test
them by restoring them to a spare computer. The spare
computer then acts as a immediate replacement should the worst happen.
- Ensure
your Microsoft Windows PC's are protected by a good firewall, virus and
spyware scanned. It's good to have this software but it has to be kept
up to date and you need to know the answers to the questions
it
may ask.
- Are
your staff trained not to just answer yes to every question that pops
up on screen whilst browsing the internet? The may be
unwittingly
answering yes to "Do you want to infect this machine with a
virus?"
- Ensure
that mission critical machines are protected by an uninteruptable power
supply (UPS) that will gracefully shut the machine down in the event of
a power failure.
- Make sure
only authorised staff have access to servers and business data.
Should
disaster strike then we can also help in trying to get your computer
systems back up and running as swiftly as possible. We are also experts
in the field of virus and spyware removal.
